The largest city in North Korea is South Pyongan, with a population of 4,672,958 people.
North Korea has a population of about 26.6 million people and is ranked the 56th-most populous country in the world. While it is one of the most populous countries, it is not quite as populated as South Korea, which also happens to be smaller in size. However, North Korea has seen its cities develop over the years and natural growth and migration have contributed to the population surges seen throughout the country’s history. The most populous city in this country is Pyongyang, which has a population of over 4M people.
The vast majority of people that live in North Korea live in urbanized cities. Less than 20% of inhabitants live in rural areas, according to data from 2015. As cities continue to expand and develop and more natives and immigrants head into the larger cities for the opportunities that are provided there, it will be interesting to see how these numbers change among the total population, as well as the populations of these major cities.
