Armenia Overview

The largest city in Armenia is Yerevan, with a population of 1,083,688 people.

The former Soviet country of Armenia, located in South Caucasus region, still retains much of its Soviet-era architecture, particularly in its capital city of Yerevan. The largest city in the country, Yerevan is home to a population of around 1.1M and serves as the administrative, cultural, and economic center of Armenia. Of the key landmarks in Yerevan, the Erebuni Fortress is considered to be the birthplace of the city, while the Katoghike Tsiranavor church is the oldest surviving church in Yerevan. Saint Gregory Cathedral is also located in the city and is the largest Armenian cathedral in the world.

After Yerevan, Armenia’s next three largest cities are Gyumri with 105K residents, Vanadzor with 69.1K, and Abovyan with 46.8K. Together, these cities serve as important regional hubs for industry, education, and transportation outside the capital.
