Morocco Overview

The largest city in Morocco is Casablanca, with a population of 3,190,406 people.

Regarded as a gateway to Africa, Morocco is a diverse country with Berber, Arabian and European influences and a landscape that features mountains, desert and a coastline that stretches along the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital city of Rabat is located on the northern coast and has a population of 504K. Although Rabat is Morocco’s political center, it is not the largest city in the country by population - in fact, it is the 10th largest.

Casablanca is Morocco’s most populous city, with 3.2M residents in its urban area. Casablanca is considered to be the economic and commercial center of Morocco, as well as its main seaport. Casablanca is also a culturally vibrant city, with an impressive mix of Moorish and European art deco architecture that reflects its French colonial past. The city of Tangier, located on the north coast of Morocco where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, is also an important city with a long history. In the early twentieth century, it was regarded as an international city and was known for attracting European and American diplomats and spies. Today, the city has a population of almost 1.4M, making it the second-largest in the country.
