The largest city in Cuba is Havana, with a population of 1,583,433 people.
Cuba is the 106th largest country in the world by area, and it has a large population that has exceeded 11 million residents. When the population numbers are broken down by city, it’s easy to see that Havana, the country’s largest city, contributes considerably to this total number. With over 1.6M inhabitants, Havana is not only the largest city in Cuba, but it is also the only major city to have surpassed the one million population milestone. The second most populous city, Santiago de Cuba, has a population of 435.1K, but it still lags considerably behind Havana. These cities, along with smaller cities and towns, are spread across 15 provinces and one special municipality.
There are also a considerable number of people living in rural areas, with just under one-quarter of the population living outside of the country’s urban regions. The population growth rate of Cuba has stalled recently, showing very little growth. At this rate, it does not look as though Cuba’s major cities will be surpassing population milestones in the near future, although an acceleration in growth can change the outlook of this country and its cities.
